High School Mentoring Begins

The Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program (BLF) and the Central Ohio Leadership Academy (COLA) officially launched the mentorship component of their comprehensive partnership on Sunday, August 24 at Wolfe Park in Bexley, Ohio.  The two programs engaged in a partnership in June 2014 that includes curriculum design, programming support, and mentorship opportunities for student participants.

Zach Freidman with Kalypso Consulting facilitated the retreat – focused on intentional leadership. Students were asked to consider their current activities and goals for the year, and construct a strategic plan to accomplish their goals to better understand why they do what they do and how best to use their resources moving forward.

The BLF students will help coach the COLA students through their ongoing projects during their senior year, positively impacting the Central Ohio community beyond the Ohio State campus area.

The Office of Student Life’s signature leadership development experience, The Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program provides access, offers tools, and creates experiences to empower students to realize their potential and make a positive impact on society. Over the course of a two year period selected students participated in a variety of personal and professional workshops, leadership challenges, and immersive experiences that are co-designed and facilitated by Ohio State alumni and community leaders.  The experiential program exposes students to a range of public and private industries and encourages them to think differently about how to apply their skills in a practical way.  Interested students can apply to this multidisciplinary program during their sophomore year.

About COLA

COLA is a high-impact, six-day leadership development experience for rising high school seniors in Central Ohio. More and more, high schools (public, private, and charter) do not have the resources or capacity to intentionally equip their students with leadership and self-development training. Additionally, there is little to no opportunity for high-potential Central Ohio students to connect with one another in a safe and educational space that is focused on their personal growth. COLA fills these personal development gaps and is an elite program in the Central Ohio community.
